The Robin Hood Season 3 Viewing Spree Begins!

The first Robin Hood Season 3 dvd arrived from Netflix yesterday and I watched episodes 1-3.
I haven't seen Season 3 in its entirety, although I did see much of it on YouTube.
It was nice to view whole episodes for a change, and on a large screen where I can observe more detail. When the Robin Hood theme song came on at the beginning of episode 1, I was so excited!  While
viewing each episode, I noticed things I hadn't before.  Here are some of those random thoughts...

The background of this scene looked really fake.  (More on my TV than this picture.)
It was so obvious they filmed it in front of a green screen.  That little girl is so cute!

Gisborne wasn't the only one who recieved a wardrobe change this season...
notice something missing on the guards?  No more yellow feathers poking out of their helmets!

It looks like Jonas Armtstrong's hair is thinning.  Maybe it's just the way it's combed.
Perhaps he needs hair extensions like Gisborne... who is so hot!!!

Episode 3 (aka: the first episode lacking Gisborne) was okay.
No Gizzy to stare at, but I survived. :)
My favorite part was seeing the Sheriff kiss that skeleton hand twice...
What was up with that!?

So far, my favorite episode (in addition to the upcoming Meg ep.) is the first one.
There's no Kate or Isabella... just Robin vs. Gisborne and the Sheriff like the good ol' days.
(I didn't find Kate that annoying in episodes 2 and 3... just her braid.)

Even with the long hair, which I evebtually warmed up to, yes Gisborne is hot. The sheriff kissing the hand was just weird, but I wasn't really all that surprised you know.

I liked Isabella, she and Guy are so alike they really could be siblings.

I actually got my first glimpse of S3 in my Paris hotel room, while I was supposed to be getting dressed for dinner. Guy and Robin (note the CORRECT order)come galloping over a hill together and I froze in place. Here I am, in PARIS, and all I can think is, "OMG, Guy..." It took willpower and too much Archer to get me dressed and out the door.

Child of the 60s, I LOVED Guy's hair. Jonas' combover is really distracting.

I guess I'm sort of a child of the 60s. One foot in anyway. I adore the long hair. Uh, I think I've said that maybe a time or two ;-), but it can't be said enough. The long hair is wow! Richard Armitage just looks better with long hair to me. But hey, after seeing the promo of Strike Back, I may totally change my mind.

I should be getting my DVDs any time now. Can't wait to see it on a big screen.

Long hair looks good on a select few and he just happens to be one of them. He'd look good in a dress and wig, who am I kidding?

My subconscious was reminding me how great Michael Praed looked with long hair, but Richard Armitage looked better...in my eyes.

@Myrtle, I totally agree with you about the Isabella and Guy similarity; I think I read or saw in some interview that even RA commented on the uncanny resemblance!

@Nat, poor Kate! Her hair needed serious help throughout the whole series! I think they needed a new hairdresser on that show, everybody's hair looked messed up to me. Sorry guys, but long hair on RA just doesn't do it for me; it always looked unclean, scraggly and all over his face covering his eyes. I felt like he really couldn't move comfortably in any of the fight scenes because the hair kept falling into his eyes. And I just cannot abide by greasy looking hair, it grosses me out, ick!

It takes a while getting used to Guy's long hair but you'll see, somewhere in the series you get hooked. I got a crush when his longahired gead bowed over Meg's dead body, sooo moving!

I'm with Twinkling Moon about the long hair - I only managed to see a little of S3 on the YouTube but I preferred the S1 and 2 hair. I read that he was wearing a wig for some of those scenes in S3.
(this is OT except you did mention that pic. of Jonas and his hair - can someone help me out and check out a scene in Spooks series 8, episode 8. Towards the end when Ros and Lucas enter the hotel at 42:41. There is a shot from above. Please reassure me that there is a light shining on the top of Lucas' head ....)

I cannot believe that anyone not want to buy S3 to complete their set. It shows a new side to Guy. Cheers to Gizzy.

See you on the dark side (no spoilers of S3 but it sets the mood TMO) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZj0KcERi2I

I thoroughly enjoyed your random observations. I do wish Kate and Isabella, but especially Kate, hadn't become such fixtures throughout the season. *bangs head against wall, AGAIN* I finally decided I'd best blog about the final 2 episodes in season 3, since I never got around to it due to the holidays, etc. I'm afraid my write-up of episode 12 turned into a bit of a gripe-fest...but I love this show so much, when it just went all crazy in season 3 I can't help but get frustrated. I guess it's the curse of being a passionate Richard Armitage fan. :)

I think Gisborne's hair was suppose to be messy and somewhat dirty in the beginning of S3....He was on the verge of a mental breakdown and had turned to drinking, so his looks had to fit the part. When he gets his act together later in the season, his hair looks neater and is clean. I loved his hair. The show was in need of a change.
Great post as usual Nat.

oh, Mulubinba, are you hinting at the possibilty of our RA losing his hair? shucks! I don't remember that scene off hand, but I do remember feeling like it's thinning but it could be due to the haircut.

I'm partial to S2 Guy's hair, not too short and not too long :)

But I do see how his messy hair was part of his character development for S3, makes sense given how badly the writers screwed up the end of S2

S3 Guy made me go from "this show sucks and I'll only catch glimpses of it now and again, but at least Guy's kinda hot" to "OMFG I HAVE to watch this show now, Guy is SMOKIN'! What else can I watch that that man's been in?!" ;)

Yes, the hair does get a wash when he comes back, so he doesn't look quite as rough. I think the hair suits him. Never did fancy it the way it was in S1+2... and they finally decided to sort out the costumes for S3, thank goodness! Finally some costumes that look medieval, not like they've been bought off a high street shop!

I think you'll have a giggle at ep. 6, because Prince John and Guy (esp. at the beginning) is insanely homoerotic. *giggle*

I heard an interview or something where it must've been RA talking, saying that the little Hungarian girl wouldn't stop smiling in that scene or something. Totally don't blame her...

I love his long hair in all three series. Can't decide which one I like the best, but maybe it's this look:

That is just a beautiful man, and the hair is definitely a part of it.

To be honest I'd quite forgotten about good old Gizzy since watching Lucas North. I do find Lucas a little dull after Sir Guy (who wouldn't?).

I used to love watching the pieces of interviews and snatches of episodes on YouTube but I think that this may have been stopped. Shame because I think this was a good bit of publicity for selling more DVDs not less. Please can we see some of the interviews from the "Extra's" disc uploaded? We have them from RH1 and RH2 but no RH3,(not as far as I'm aware anyway). I think YouTube are good at promoting such series and if uploading has been prevented then the BBC/Kudos have well and truly shot themselves in the foot (with an arrow!). Far from discouraging me from buying the DVDs they have the opposite effect and ENCOURAGE me to buy them! Am I alone in this view?

bZirk said...

Great points, Sue.

If there hadn't been the promotion on YouTube, I wouldn't have even known about Robin Hood let alone bought anything.

Sue 8:39 RH3 clips are out there on YT. But not this one: http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_7010000/newsid_7017400/7017402.stm?bw=bb&mp=rm&asb=1&news=1&ms3=20

BZirk: ´If there hadn't been the promotion on YouTube, I wouldn't have even known about Robin Hood let alone bought anything.´ It´s the same for me.

Sue: clips S3 see here and further on YT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8ipud75ByU&feature=related
Previous mentioned clip was not S3.

bZirk said...

Thanks for the YT links. Can't wait to watch all of that on my DVDs, which I should be getting anytime. I've been out of town, so they may be at the house when I get there. Yea! :D

Then next up: Spooks S7.
