It seems to have mixed reviews amongst RA fans,
but I like "The Impressionists."
but I like "The Impressionists."
Even Monet's squirrel beard has grown on me.
Okay, maybe not...
but it does make him look more "artsy," right?
Here is a lovely new vid created by 19bt80, highlighting moments from the film.

What a lovely contrast in the days of (scary to me) Lucas/John to have a Monet vid.
Beautiful Job and yes I am one of those people where his looks don't bother me one bit. I find them and his oversize suits endearing.
But besides that the whole cast and production was stellar and vivid!
Claude still makes me want to hug him, for his passion, and enthusiasm, and love, and eye for beauty, and... even his squirrelly beard :)
My second favourite role after L/J... luvly vid, and great reminder.
Did i mention his gorgeous smile and laugh!! I think this IS my favorite role of his!
Charming. I thought he was brilliant as Monet. Maybe the squirrel beard helped. Hmmmmmm
I loved his Monet portrayal. As always his acting was superb. At first I thought, what is that fuzzy brillo pad doing on his chin, then I realized it resembled a beard of some sort! I didn't mind it after awhile - it kind of grew on me... do you think that was RA's real facial hair - was it his or a fake piece he wore for filming? Sorry, I can't picture RA with that fuzzy hair ball on his chiny chin chin in real life! I imagine something much more attractive! :)
Double ditto @iza4blue! Love seeing the smile. Hope he does something along this lines in the future getting sick of the action boys with guns stuff.
I lvoe a good period piece and I am not ashamed to say it!!!
@Rob agreed! I'm loving Downton Abbey over Spooks, its coming here Winter 11! Great perioddrama, nice pace, good character development, well shot with eye for detail.
And yes please, something with joyful emotion in the future for RA.
Lovely video, such a nice reminder of the superb BBC series. I loved the Impressionist and RA's portrayal of it, beard or not :)
I thought it was also one of his "lighter" roles, meaning he was allowed to smile his gorgeous smile more.
A lovely vid.
I must confess I got the DVD from the library and simply couldn't plow through it. It was on the educational side. I overdosed on Monet in my youth and in my almost dotage threw him over for Van Gogh.
I'm glad for the vid. I'm sure RA was great in it. The beard is awfully ratty but that's neither here nor there, IMO. Spectacular scenery though.
Thanks Nat. I loved TI also .... I agree with the comments above - I hope he plays another role along similar lines :)
I loved the camaraderie of the group of painters, the way they stuck together through the hard times, lending each other money, carousing together and having fun, too. Monet, as Richard portrays him, was so sunny-natured and lovable and I've never seen Richard's beautiful eyes so luminously azure. It's almost as though they reflect the Mediterranean skies.
I forgot to say that I think the vid by 19bt80 is superb! She really celebrates the artist at work and his work! I like the effect of seeing the moving pictures framed by a painting.
Love the Impressionists and RA's role as Monet. Love Monet! And I do really like this fanvid! Thanks for posting!
I've always loved Monet's work so Monet and RA together is a real treat. This video was wonderful, the music - perfect. Thanks, Nat for posting.
