Selfish Thoughts

My sister Allie has always been
one of my best friends.

Since we were little, she has put up with me
being the bossy older sibling and I've put up with her
wanting to borrow all of my favorite things...

but we're not talking about Tasha the doll
or my ABC blankey right now.

Allie currently  has my copy of "North & South"
and I'm feeling a little antsy.

(She doesn't even know
the correct name of the film.
She keeps calling it "North by East"
or "That Richard Armi-whatever Movie.")

I am resisting the urge to revert back to my toddler days~
snatching the DVD away from her and shouting, "Mine!!!"
while she sobs, "Moooommy!  Natalie won't shaaare!"
No, I'm much too mature to do such a thing now.
I'm merely thinking about doing it.

To be continued...

Does your sister read this blog? :)

I have to confess that I've spent something like $120 on N&S DVDs. One for me. One for each of my TAs. Another spare for me. One to put in the library so my students could see it. One that I lent to a friend who moved away and it never came back. I really hope that Mr. Armitage gets some kind of royalty or residual on this, because I suspect that I'm going to have keep buying these and it's starting to get expensive. There's not any point in buying used, it's the same price as the new one.

whuh? Huh? YOu... you let her... borrow it? Or, did she perhaps get you horribly drunk, or perhaps dangle one of your most beloved possessions over the fist tank until you gave it up? I luv my sister, but she can suck an egg if she wants a Richard movie. She has children. Children break things. *shudder* Here's hoping you get your dvd back! :) Hugs!

I made the mistake of letting a friend borrow my first copy. It's a mistake I won't make again. I have a special hiding place for it now, and if someone asks to borrow it, I smile and politely refer them to Netflix.

Serv- no, Allie doesn't read this blog. She has glanced at it before, but that's it. If she read this post, she'd laugh her head off! (Because it's true.) I will have to show it to her. :)

bettielee & sarah- thanks for the pep talk. I'm now feeling more antsy than ever! :)

Nat, to hell with maturity, snatch it back right now!!!! :)

I forgot to say good luck in getting it back. At least you know where to find her. I hope she spares you the pain and suffering of such a loss. It's not an easy thing to recover from. :)

In order to keep up a good balance within your family's bossom, dear Nat, I strongly advise you to purchase another copy of N&S. Or maybe two, one can never have too many of them as it is vital substance to the heart and soul! LOL

Hello. My name is Sunflower. I'm also hopeless. I need help. Fast.

Friend asked to borrow my copy. She walked out the door w/ DVD I trembled & hyperventilated. My life flased before me. I pivoted, reached for puter & ordered another DVD. Next day delivery. Camped at mailbox til it arrived. Oh the relief and happiness.

Hang in there Nat. If nothing else, I can send my Cousin Vinny over to "manage" the situation. (Still don't have my 1st back.)

LOL..If someone wants to borrow my North & South DVD I too refer them to Netflix, but first to Youtube so they can get a "taste". If they are not that into it you don't want to lean them the DVD. Not because you are mean but because you appreciate it more than they will and you will mourn horribly if they lose it! LOL Maybe keep the DVD in a firesafe locked box! LOL

Hola everyone. I will not be exaggerated, but ... the North and South dvd for me is vital to my existence and therefore I can be the most disgustingly selfish on earth! Natalie understand your anguish and I'll walk you to your feeling. By Mr. Armitage is worth doing anything! My advice (not a lack of maturity), go and pluck it out of her hands and bring it back to your house! Besos from Argentina.

You loaned out your copy!

Loaned???

I can't go that route anymore. Too stressful on the heart. If someone wants to watch it, they can make themselves comfortable on my sofa and watch it then and there. :)

I made a digital copy of my N&S and loaded it in my iPod. That way JT/RA is with me everywhere I go. Gotta love the iPod. Love your blog too Nat!

I do hope she likes it! ALMOST as much as you but NOT more than you because I don't think you'd like to share RA completely :)

Let me put it this way, I consider N&S my dessert island DVD. I only lent it to my neighbor and she gave it back promptly. She also told me she didn't "get" RA. Told me he had "sharp" features. So, I no longer lend it out. I need it in case of emergencies. It is like my adult binkie, I pop it in when I need soothing.

LOL at you post and all the comments :) You guys are HILARIOUS!

Now, let's talk about this sister...I got a pesky younger one myself, but she's not into any kind of period drama, so I have no worries on that end...

I have to say when I read "North by East" I burst out laughing and immediately thought of "North by Northwest" with Cary Grant, and RA definitely has that old Hollywood Cary Grant quality to him (like in the BAFTA 09 behind the scenes shots, *swoon*) So I can forgive Allie's blunder :)

But yeah, I'm not one for "loaning" out, nah! They can all check out Youtube or Netflix, and if that's mean, too bad :)

"I luv my sister, but she can suck an egg if she wants a Richard movie. She has children. Children break things.*shudder*" @Bettielee, I'm so with you on that kid-thing, LOL!

@Rob..what is wrong with this woman? Too sharp? Doesn't get him? That's like saying the Hallelujah Chorus is too loud, or the Mona Lisa is too drab or the Taj Mahal is too big?

As I type, I await a call from my fav auntie (she's the closest I ever got to a sister!). Gave her N&S for Christmas. Will talk to her this AM and see how she liked it. The suspense is killing me! Update to follow...

Nat, I haven't read any of the comments yet, but I'm sure someone has said this, and it bears repeating. You know you need a second copy. Maybe I should send you one? :D The N&S vid stays in my Amazon shopping cart/wish list. That way I know when it goes down in price.

Violet8886 said...

Having a second copy is a good idea RAFrenzy...

I don't get the not liking the "sharp features" either..

His features are what makes him. I absolutely love his big nose. Love it!

Sent my sister home to the Coast with MY copy of N&S. While she here, I subjected her to some VoD, Ep 1 of MI5/7, and she's a convert!

Immediately ordered a replacement and Amazon came through in record time.

Some things (like a convert) are worth the temporary sacrifice...

Ladies --

I love a big nose too!!! Give me a face with character over a pretty boy!!!

Yeah, my neighbor, she's missin' out. More Armitage for the rest of us!!! :)

I broke into a cold sweat just reading this post.

Charleybrown said...

pi, your comment made me laugh out loud! But then again, I realize how serious it would be to be without one's DVD of N&S!

Laura said...

@fitzg: You're right, lending one's DVD is worth it if you can convert someone. That's way I don't regret having spent five days without mine during the holidays. So I would probably do it again, should a worthy convert-candidate come along. But if I had got an unkind comment about "that Richard Armi-whatever movie" or his "sharp features", that would have been it.

Anonymous said...

Laura, something tells me our brother might be a harder case, though! Not "lending" HIM N&S,or even MI5...

Violet8886 said...

Some of it may be that if someone is not into "costume drama" anyway it will be harder for them to truly appreciate Richard. Better to start them off with MI-5.

Teuchter said...

I believe RA said that he had at one time contemplated having a "nose job" (so glad he didn't) but that he feels he "grew into it". I totally agree and think it is a part of how amazingly handsome he is today. He certainly has grown more gorgeous as he has matured even though you could see the latent beauty his features held in earlier pictures.

Avalon said...

I am with Myrtle, snatch it back soon.

Ann Marie said...

Sorry, love, love of Richard is thicker than blood ...she needs to get it back to to you asap...

mulubinba said...

I confess that I am very reluctant to lend my DVDs out to one or two people at work who are notorious for losing things. Lords of the North is probably the most protected CD of my collection as it is really hard to replace. Hope N&S is back at your place soon .... but do you keep it away from the children? I know of certain young ones not unrelated to me who thought DVDs made good frisbees!!!

pi said...

@Charleybrown- :)))

Yeah, seriously, the post made me stop and ponder.

I offered up the N&S Grail to my BFF along with Vicar of Dibley which she watched first when I visited her.

Her remark about V0D- I can see why you like him. He's a good actor. (YIPPEE for that).

As for N&S, there was no response worth mentioning. Oh shoot me now. YE GODS. I comfort myself with the remembrance that she loves blondes. BLONDES. My best friend in the universe and she doesn't get it. Oy freaking vey. I am desolate.

sunflowersue said...

Dear Miz PI...you are totally crackin' me up! "Oy freaking vey." I'm in hysterics. Have you tried any Robin Hood yet? Surely...but then if blondes do it for her. Talked to my auntie but my mom hasn't got the DVDs to her yet. Waiting, Mom, waiting.

@mulabinba..I hear you on the LotN audio. Ain't noboydy gittin' their grimey hands on THAT! (it's also on my hard drive, in my walkman and backup cds are filed away.) Just finished reading "The Burning Land" today. More. I want more.
